Edmonton Oilers deals/draft picks this offseason

The Edmonton Oilers have made a handful of trades, including trading for G Cam Talbot, D Griffin Reinhart, and D Eric Gryba. The free agent signings include D Andrej Sekera, and C Mark Letestu.

Talbot’s record this past year was 21-9-4, had a GAA of 2.21, and had save percentage of .926.

Letestu’s stats include 7 goals 6 assists for a total of 13 points in 54 games played. He -9 rating.

Reinhart’s stats include 0 goals and 1 assist for a total of 1 point in 8 games played. He was a +1 rating.

Gryba’s stats this past season are 0 goals 12 points in 75 games played. +11

Sekera’s stats from the Carolina Hurricanes and Los Angles Kings were 3 goals, 20 assists for a total of 23 points in 73 games played. He was a -3 rating.

It looks like Connor McDavid will play on the second line with Taylor Hall, and Nail Yakupov. Darnell Nurse will not play this year according to the Edmonton Oilers app.

The Oilers have made lots of moves this offseason, and I rank them number 20 in my power rankings for next year. I think the biggest move this offseason was either acquiring Cam Talbot from the Rangers, or picking up Andrej Sekera in free agency. Talbot looks like a solid starter, as we saw that from when Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist went down with injury in March of 2015. Sekera brings veteran leadership to a young Edmonton blue line. He is expected to play on the first line with Mark Fayne. Talbot is expected to start over veteran Ben Scrivens.

Here are the projected lines for next year:

Pouliot-Nugent Hopkins-Eberle

Hall-McDavid-Yakupov

Korpikoski-Lander-Purcell

Hendricks-Letestu-Klinkhammer

Defense:

Sekera-Fayne

Klefbom-Schultz

Ference-Gryba

I agree with these lines but I think Gryba should go on second line, Fayne goes on third line, and Schultz goes on first line.

My prediction for Edmonton next year is that they will finish above Arizona, but the Canucks will barely out do them, and will beat them by 6 points. Look out for these players: Sekera, Talbot, Hall, McDavid, Schultz. I expect them all to have great years. Darnell Nurse will be up there in the top 6 soon, but for now, Fayne has his spot. I think Nurse will be one of the elite defenseman in the game in in 3-4 years, maybe top 15 in the league. He will be ready by next year or 2 years from now is my prediction. McDavid will have about 50 points in his rookie year, but will be a close run for the Calder because of Strome, Eichel, and Hanifin to have terrific years (that was a prediction if you couldn’t tell). Nugent Hopkins will be traded when McDavid is ready to be a #1 center, for a pick, and 2 dedicated third liners. Bottom line here, is that the Oilers have tons of great prospects and a few good veteran players, and I predict they will be an elite team in 3-4 years.
