Saturday, September 19, 2009, the Toronto Maple Leafs made a trade to acquire Phil Kessel from the Boston Bruins for 2 first round picks and a second round pick. Back in 2012 this was the results from this Trade:
Toronto acquires
Phil Kessel
Boston acquires
Tyler Seguin
Dougie Hamilton
Jared Knight
So far pretty lopsided trade in favor of Boston.
Later in the summer of 2013, a big blockbuster trade sends Tyler Seguin to the Dallas Stars. Results of original trade after this ended up like this:
Toronto acquires
Phil Kessel
Dougie Hamilton
Jared Knight
Loui Eriksson
Reilly Smith
Joe Morrow
The Bruins also acquired Matt Fraser, but they eventually put him on waivers and got nothing back for him. So you can include him but it wouldn’t really be any part of the trade.
The following 2 years, the Trade Deadline sends Jared Knight to Minnesota for Zach Phillips.
Results after this move:
Toronto acquires
Phil Kessel
Boston acquires
Dougie Hamilton
Loui Eriksson
Reilly Smith
Joe Morrow
Zach Phillips
Is Boston still having a better end?
Later that season, Draft day, the Boston Bruins Trade Dougie Hamilton to the Calgary Flames for a first round pick and 2 second round picks. Results after this move:
Toronto acquires
Phil Kessel
Boston acquires
Loui Eriksson
Reilly Smith
Joe Morrow
Zach Phillips
Zach Senyshyn
Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson
Jeremy Lauzon
Is Boston still winning this trade? Maybe but not a lot
The start of July and Free agency arrives and a huge blockbuster sends Kessel to the Penguins for Kasperi Kapanen, Scott Harrington, Nick Spaling, and conditional first and third round picks. Reilly Smith was also traded for rights of Jimmy Hayes, but they eventually signed him for three years
The Final Results of this trade(for now at least):
Toronto acquires
Kasperi Kapanen
Scott Harrington
Nick Spaling
Conditional first round pick
Conditional third round pick
Boston acquires
Loui Eriksson
Joe Morrow
Zach Phillips
Zach Senyshyn
Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson
Jeremy Lauzon
Jimmy Hayes
So after all this, who do you think got the longer end of the stick, Boston or Toronto?
In my opinion, I think Toronto edged out in this one because of the potential of Kasperi Kapanen and Scott Harrington. I haven’t heard much about the players the Bruins drafted with the picks from the Dougie Hamilton. That will decide if this is an even trade.                                          Article Writer->TheIronSchrade at 2BCProductions.com(aka me)
